Country on the Eye 2026: Where Nashville Meets the East Midlands

A brand-new chapter in UK country music begins this summer as Country on the Eye brings the spirit of Nashville to the heart of Melton Mowbray. Set against the historic backdrop of Play Close Park, this inaugural festival blends the heritage of Americana with the warmth and character of the East Midlands -creating a weekend where world‑class songwriting meets true community spirit.

The celebrations open on Friday 12 June 2026 at 7pm with an intimate Songwriters Series, setting the tone for a festival built on storytelling, craft, and connection. Then on Saturday 13 June, the park comes alive with a full day of live music, family‑friendly activities, and the unmistakable buzz of a new tradition taking root.

Curated by artistic director Ben Atkinson (interview) — the voice behind the internationally syndicated Ben’s Country Music Show, now marking its 18th anniversary — Country on the Eye is designed as a homecoming for fans who’ve long wished for a festival that honours both the Nashville sound and the thriving UK scene.

And the debut lineup delivers.
Headlining the mainstage is Gary Quinn, UK No. 1 country artist and BCMA Male Vocalist of the Year, bringing his signature blend of heart, polish, and powerhouse vocals. They’re joined by a hand‑picked roster of standout talent, including the UK festival debut of US duo Karli and James, the bluegrass fire of The Often Herd, and the acclaimed Nashville songwriter Victoria Banks.

The Legends Slot

In a coup for year one, the festival’s “legends slot”, inspired by Glastonbury’s teatime tradition, goes to Bob Cheevers, the Emmy-winning Texas troubadour personally chosen by Johnny Cash to open his final concert tour. Cheevers will come out of retirement especially for the event, promising one of the weekend’s most poignant moments.

Beyond the mainstage, festival‑goers can explore the Acoustic Tent for stripped‑back sets, interviews, and meet‑and‑greets, grab a local craft beer, or dive into the Americana‑inspired food stalls. Line‑dance workshops and a rodeo bull challenge bring a playful, boots‑stomping energy — all framed by the River Eye and nearly 500 years of history cared for by the Melton Mowbray Town Estate.

With easy rail and road links, nearby hotels, and camping options for those who want to stay close to the action, Country on the Eye is ready to welcome visitors from Leicester, the wider Midlands, and across the UK.
